A Masterclass in Self-Confidence
The word confidence stems from the Latin word ‘fidere’ which means to trust. What does trust have to do with self-confidence? It’s quite simple. When you are confident in yourself, you trust yourself.
Do you believe in yourself?
This type of trust is not connected to your relationships and how skeptical or believing you are in others. This trust is the belief you have in yourself.
- Do you have faith in your ability to achieve something?
- Would you choose yourself to do a certain project if you were on the outside looking in?
- Can you achieve the daily goals that you set for yourself?
How to start trusting yourself
To trust is to know that you will do what you have set out to do. Here are some ways in which you can start to trust yourself:
- Consider times when you have been there for others;
- Think about who trusts you;
- Congratulate yourself on past successes;
- Think about things that you’re good at, even if they are unrelated to your work environment;
- Think about goals which you have achieved;
- Engage in positive self talk;
- Ask others why they trust you;
- Ask others what they believe you are good at;
- Do not focus on your weaknesses, rather build on your strengths so that you know you are good and can be confident in a few spheres.
When you trust another person, you know that they won’t hurt you, and that their commitment to you is strong. Building trust is a process. Start the process with yourself. Remember that you’re not starting from the beginning, you’re starting from a base of experience and the ability to grow your confidence levels one day at a time. Stop holding yourself back, remember that you are trustworthy and you of all people can trust yourself. Be your own Master Class in Self-Confidence
