Growing your Knowledge

Tara Westover said that all the decisions that go into making a life—the choices people make, together and on their own, that combine to produce any single event.

Embarking on a path to develop and grow your knowledge is quite a decision to make. It is not a matter of saying ‘I would like to know more’. It is a planned project of what you need to know and why you need to know it. Once you have answered those difficult questions, you need to apply that knowledge, otherwise the whole exercise is redundant.

Becoming knowledgeable means becoming an information source that you can tap into when you need to. This builds credibility and makes you stand out from the crowd. Developing yourself as a professional woman has numerous facets, yet having knowledge – in as many forms as it may appear – is one element that can never be ignored.

If you don’t know then you can never answer, never be seen, and never be known. Choosing to educate yourself so you can understand and question what’s happening around you is the starting point to elevate your professional development.

Although knowledge is the easiest component of competency to work on, it is the one which lays the foundation for all the other components of competence to reside. Make the decision to know more, so that you can make more decisions about who you want to be.
